BBK Groundbreaking

Growing Mustang community rubs elbows with decision makers

BBK Performance Products is an ever-growing entity in the Mustang market. In Deland, Florida, on March 10, 2008, the company further showed proof that it’s not slowing down. With 72-75 percent of its sales taking place east of the Mississippi River, BBK decided it was time to be closer to its customer base. For quicker parts delivery, BBK is opening a manufacturing/distribution center in Deland, Florida.

After working with Volusia County and the city of Deland for more than four years, BBK has begun construction on a new 62,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility at Deland Crossings Industrial Park located just off Interstate 4 and State Road 44. The new BBK location is 18 miles from downtown Daytona Beach and 45 miles from downtown Orlando. When traveling on I-4 between Orlando and Daytona Beach, you can see the ongoing construction, which should be complete in either late 2008 or early 2009. The building will house a parts manufacturing and stocking facility, an in-house rear-wheel dyno, and a product showroom.

More importantly for the Deland community, BBK will look to hire up to 40 high-skilled, high-wage jobs to run the new facility. Along with BBK’s Brian and Ken Murphy, those moving dirt with golden shovels include Congressman John Mica; Assistant Secretary of Economic Development, U.S. Department of Commerce Sandy Baruah; and District 1 Volusia County Council Representative Andy Kelly. Most comments centered on thanking BBK for investing in the Volusia County economy, which is what we expected. However, when Assistant Secretary Sandy Baruah (5th from right) took the mic, our ears perked up like a German Shepard waiting to pounce on an escaped convict. Sandy actually knew about cars—specifically Mustangs. 5.0&SF Ad Sales Rep Rob Spina caught up with Sandy after the groundbreaking, and trust me when I say he knew about Mustangs. Sandy took a few minutes out of his busy day to talk to us, and he was probably the only non-BBK representative in attendance with knowledge of the Mustang market—besides Rob and me, anyway. I mean—this guy is a part of the President’s cabinet. His business card features the presidential seal, and he’s a car guy. That was refreshing.
Thanks BBK for moving a main distribution hub closer to our Tampa, Florida offices, and thanks to Sandy Baruah for allowing Rob and me to rub elbows with a car-caring public official. Vote for Sandy.
