It's been a busy month for me, but I finally got the chance to get that nasty break-in oil out of my ’08 Vapor Silver GT 500, dubbed Project Vapor Trail for the magazine...

After looking high and low for a suitable 5W50 synthetic oil, I was able to find Castrol Syntec at my local Pep Boys for $6.29 per quart. The Motorcraft oil was a whopping $9.25 per quart from the dealer, so I went for the Castrol and saved $21 bucks. I'm curious to know what 5W50 you guys are able to find locally, so post in the comments if you've been able to score other brands locally.

For filtration I had already ordered up a case of Ford Racing's M-6731-FL820 filters, which feature a "Synthetic-Polymer/Cellulose-Fiber blend media, High quality silicone anti-drain back valve, and Up to 50-percent more filtering capacity than standard filters." Since I only want the best for my new baby, the FRPP filter is a great fit.

So with just under 1,400 miles on the clock, I put in a fresh 6.5 quarts of synthetic oil and the new filter without making too much of a mess. I even used the aluminum-foil-on-the -K-member trick to keep oil from the filter from mussing the the chassis.
