OK, I'll apologize now for the cliffhanger that I'm about to throw at you all, especially those of you who are anxiously waiting for word on the performance of our Boss 340 project engine...the 302-based engine with canted-valve, Cleveland/Boss-style heads.
As the photo shows, and as you've hopefully read in our July '08 issue ("Born-Again Boss," p. 130), the Edelbrock Performer RPM 351C 2V/Comp hydraulic-roller-headed version of our modern-day Boss engine is complete. Naturally, the "next step" for our project is a dyno test, so I recently hauled our bullet over to the dyno specialists at Westech Performance Group in Mira Loma, California, to dial-in a WOT tune with ACCEL's new "Thruster EFI" engine-management system, and to see what type of peak power our experiment pumps out. OK, here's the cliffhanger...I'm not gonna tell you the dyno numbers here or now, but I will give you a taste of how good the Boss bullet sounds. Click the link or copy/paste the URL to get a look and listen, then come on back here and give us your guess on how much horsepower the Boss 340 made when we took it to full rip (6,700 rpm) on the dyno. Keep an eye out for the actual performance data in an upcoming issue of 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olW70aIBfn0
