We recently took our 2002 'Stang out to Cesar Chavez High School in Compton, California for a little "show-and-tell" with students there. Our New Edge GT was part of a great display of several LA-area drag cars and hot rods, and it definitely was a hit with the kids!
Cesar Chavez is a "continuation school." It's one of LA's "last-chance" schools for kids who have problems and issues (abuse, teen pregnancy, gangs, etc) of various sorts that have made being a part of the mainstream school system difficult. We were asked to come to the school, not to floss, but to answer questions about the cars and also to let the young people know our feelings about the importance of working hard and staying in school. The kids asked great questions, and it was cool to see their energy and enthusiasm about the cars, in the two sessions that were held.
We wish good luck to the students of Cesar Chavez High, and we encourage those of you who are reading this blog note to channel your time into something like this, if the opportunity ever comes your way. If you can make an impact on even one young person, you're doing something BIG!
