For years, well, nearly thirty years, to be exact, the 1979 Mustang GT Indy 500 Pace Car has been recognized as one of the coolest 5.0 Fox bodies of all time (from the little-known-fact department...the actual Ponies that set the pace cars for the '79 race went on to "chase" Formula-1 cars around the streets of Motown, as safety cars for the Detroit Grand Prix). There's no way in the world that we'd ever dispute that fact. However, we stumbled on this radical pace car, nestled among the hundreds of super-bad Fords inside the Roush Museum in Livonia, Michigan. While we couldn't ascertain the year or trim of this 'Stang-based pacer (looking at the sail panel, our guess is mid-'80s SVO), it definitely is an interesting piece, that apparently led PPG Indy cars around race tracks at some point.
