We always try and make the most of our trips to the cities we visit along the NMRA tour. Whenever possible, not only do we cover the racing action, we also try and connect with a Mustang shop, or aftermarket manufacturer that's located within a fairly close proximity to the dragstrip where the race is being held. With a huge campus located just outside downtown Detroit, Roush Performance Products (a division of Roush Industries) is a place we definitely wanted to check out, while we were in town for the NMRA's 5th Annual Aeromotive Nationals at Milan Dragway...

Although there wasn't too much going on during our stop inside the shop's main assembly area, it was cool to see how stock 'Stangs are transformed into Roush rockets.
This unique fender badge caught our eye...
That's right, Roush is doing its part to try and save the planet. This F-150 has been retrofitted to operate with propane injection. I took it for a spin, and can honestly say that there is absolutely no difference in how the truck would perform with gasoline. It's just a lot cleaner, which is good.

In a word, the Roush facility can only be described as, HUGE! With numbered "buildings (assembly and fabrication shops, warehouses, offices, etc)" located literally everywhere you turn in the city of Livonia, Jack Roush (the company's owner--who, like your Tech Editor, is known for wearing a "trademark" hat all the time) definitely has built a high-performance empire, with Mustang being its flagship for many years. Our tour involved Communications and Motorsports Manager, John Clark, taking us on a walk through "Building 50," which is the shop where various Roush Mustang models--including the new, and bad-ass "P-51A" that Dale Amy details in our Aug '08 issue--are assembled. While the assembly shop was somewhat quiet during our visit, it was very cool to get a first-hand look at and fascinating information about the build process for Roush Mustangs, trucks and parts. It definitely was a very cool day!
