One thing I’ve never had on any of my Mustangs is well-working wiper blades. Mine have always fluttered, or featured the dreaded lines caused by the wiper blades not making full contact. I’d always be jealous when getting into other people’s rides possessing fully-operational wiper blades. “I wish mine worked that good,” I’d say to myself. Of course, you don’t want your buddies to know you secretly wish your own wiper blades worked as good as theirs, but thanks to Rain-X’s new Latitude wiper blades I have turned the tables.
Since it’s the rainy season down here in Florida, Rain-X’s Latitude wiper blades really come in handy, and let’s face it, even the Mustang’s factory wiper blades don’t work that well. The driver side blade on my daily driver ’94 Cobra was on its last leg. I was using the tear-off version of the wiper blade because the main blade came loose so I had to rip it off (Going down the road in the rain, BTW). The tear-off version of my wiper blades didn’t work any better, but maybe an inventive company can come up with tear-off version wiper blades. When the main blade gets dry-rotted or damaged, it can be torn off where another blade is present to take over…uh, wiping duties. That sounds weird. The idea’s not weird, but the last statement didn’t sound good.
Anyway, I installed the wiper blades Monday afternoon in the hopes of running into rain on the way home, or at some point that evening to try out my new blades. It usually rains every summer afternoon here in central Florida so I knew my chances were really good. Driving down I4 it looked like my wishes were coming true. I could see the rain, but I wasn’t catching the rain; it was running from me and my new wiper blades. I was cheated…and bummed. I was so looking forward to seeing the new blades in action, but it was for not.
The next morning on the way to work the skies looked promising once again. However, I was teased with just a light drizzle, but on the way home my dreams came true with a downpour lasting into the night. Finally, I was able to test out my new blades, and let me tell you, I’ve never experienced such windshield clearing as I did during those storms. It must be the blades’ contoured design applying equal pressure along the entire blade. Or it could be the blades’ graphite-coated rubber blade for a smooth, clean, chatter-free wipe, which is always good.
However, one problem the new blades have exacerbated is my Cobra’s lack of A/C. During a rainstorm, and not having A/C I have to roll in my 5.0 with the windows down. With the old, worn-out blades I could go for miles without getting water inside the vehicle, but with these new blades ability to clear the windshield they send water right in the car. Guess my next fix needs to be the A/C.
