With gas prices the way they are these days we’ve started to notice less Mustangs on the road during the week. However, this past weekend I noticed a ton of Mustangs out on the street. That got me thinking, are today’s gas prices making our Mustang a weekend car?
My ’94 Cobra is my only source of transportation. Well, except for my Dyno Compe BMXer, but I’m not riding that thing down the interstate to work, I’ll surely be killed. Plus, I don’t even have grips on the bike, and the front brake doesn’t work, but I digress. I have no choice but to drive my Cobra the 60-some odd mile round trip every day to the office. I know I am not alone in this area, but it seems the number of Mustangs I see on a daily basis is shrinking.
Seeing a Fox Mustang on the road is almost the equivalent of seeing Bigfoot in the woods. Ok, so I’m slightly exaggerating, but you get the point. Editor Turner recently told me that our Tampa, FL office location is also the most Mustang populated area in the country. A Ford focus (Not the car) group studied and confirmed that fact, which makes sense because we used to see a ton of Mustangs on a daily basis, but that has changed.
Come on people, are we going to let the gas companies and oil-producing countries govern how often we drive our Mustangs? Slow down, make sure your tires have proper air pressure, clean your air filter, and get in your Mustang and drive. Let’s make every day ‘Drive your Mustang to work day.’ Make yourself a sandwich for lunch instead of going out. Save that for Fridays, it’ll feel more special and taste really good after eating turkey and cheese sandwiches all week, trust me on that.
