Ford Racing Mustang Challenge at Barber

Remember me thinking about beating Andrew Caddell and Terry Borcheller? You can forget about that as Terry won it and Andrew was second and no one was even close to them. We all need to figure what Stable One is doing for horsepower?! It’s supposed to be a spec series. Out of 20 entries I only beat one guy because he crashed. So how does that happen to a guy that won the last race flag to flag? Start by knowing that I could never get that car dialed in and never got a chance to find out during the race if the last minute changes we made worked either.

By the second turn of the first lap I had moved up a spot and then on lucky turn number 13 Dan Aweida, #17 goes four wheels off and whips back on to the track to take me out. If you go off track you are to enter the track safely and not take out your competitors. That simple. The cure for all this is to qualify better and get away from that kind of behavior. Trust me I am working on it.

The wreck knocks out my ABS and just three turns later I am passing Dan and the tires lock up and I get to experience flat spots and some more contact. The vibration is insane, check out the splitter camera view. I do have some good news after this weekend. I am still second in the championship points and I got to stay at a Holiday Inn Express!

I am the only guy who Jamie beat. I wrecked on lap #9 in the kink on the back straight otherwise he would have come in last. I am also COO of StableOne and have been in the series from the beginning. We started our team with four rookie drivers and decided three races into the season that in order to go faster and win races we needed to change the only component that is different between all the cars. The driver.

Andrew Caddell was looking for a full time guaranteed ride and we gave him the opportunity. He is a great guy with loads of talent and we are excited about this season and the future. We were also looking for a "safety net" in case AC has a problem, gets a flat or any other "that's just racing" gremlins appear. So we developed a relationship with Terry Borcheller.

We put Terry in the #4 car which has been wrecked twice and never finished in the top 10. We put AC in the #43 car that was wrecked in practice prior to the season and had never finished better than 7th. AC won the pole and finished 2nd and Terry won the race. Our third driver, Andrew Hendricks finished 7th, his best finish to date.

I have driven all 4 cars at speed, well, at as much speed as I could generate. They are all equal and Terry would have won in any of the cars and AC would have finished 2nd in any of the cars. I would be willing to bet the next race's prize money that our cars are pushing the same or less horsepower that Jamie's new engine pushes. The only measure of HP on the track is on the straight. I can't pull away from Jamie on the straight no matter how hard I try, and I have tried at every track this year. He is just a better driver than I am. It doesn't have anything to do with HP, and my foot is just as heavy as his on the straight.

We selected AutoHaus as our race services provider because they are good at their profession. They never stop listening to the drivers and how we want the setup to change. We changed everything within the rules from air pressure to window nets. They hit the setup just in time for qualifying and it wasn't the first thing we tried that made the difference. They don't give up, and neither do we.

It was obvious to everyone along pit lane that Jamie missed the setup. He is always in contention, he is just that good. You can go to any series from F-1 to Karts and find top drivers who aren't competitive at one race or another because they just don't get it dialed in. I believe that this was the case at Barber. We know that Jamie will be back at the top of the pack and look forward to competing with him all season.

We did stay at the Hilton, Paris hooked us up with great rooms. Maybe that was the difference. ;-)

In our stable we have cars that range from Ford GTs to Ferraris and DB-9s and we love our Mustangs!

2. Hey Bruce:

I'd rather take my chances with one of those Stable One cars..... Andrew Caddell himself even commented while at TC Motorsports about how fast all 4 cars were on the straights at Mosport.

Both Terry Borcheller and Andrew Caddell are terrific drivers and a pleasure to race against. I've got work to do.

Does being a lap down exclude this from running #18 off the track knocking him out of 5 positions?

4. Besides power, exit speeds (onto a given straightaway), when you get to full throttle, the speed of shifts, etc... all affect the speed down the straightaway.

5. Hi Jamie,
It is all in good fun and we love seeing you at the tracks. It just hasn't been often enough in the rear view mirror. After the last race in Utah, Let's line up your car and mine to check out your theory. Maybe it is because the cool design looks fast standing still. Next week, check with AC and ask him if there is any difference in the straight line speed between the 43 car and the 07 he drove for TC. I think you will be surprised by his answer. Good luck for the rest of the season, I will see you in NJ. I have to go to Pebble Beach the week of August 15 so I will miss Lime Rock. The dynamic trio will be there racing for the win. Well that is not good news....Yikes! You guys were on fire at Barber, heck after the restart your still whipped the field by 9.3 seconds. Slow down....give the rest of us a chance to compete...

I look forward to running with the Tres Amigos at Lime Rock and will see you at Thunderbolt in NJ.
