Are You Ready for Some Football?!

Examples of What Happens When 'Stangs and "Team Spirit" Collide

With NFL training camps now in full swing, it's time for some of us (Editor Turner and myself here at 5.0) to once-again allocate at least some of our focus on "our teams," and their highs and lows over the next six months.

As our inter-office fanhood goes, Big Steve cheers hard for the Oakland Raiders (an AFC team), and I'm a diehard fan of the NFC's Dallas Cowboys (diehard enough to drive 18 hours through a Northeastern snow storm to attend Super Bowl XXVIII in Atlanta, and see the 'Boys destroy the Buffalo Bills--30 to 13--for the NFL title). Yes, this time of year definitely pumps us up. On one hand, it's time for the pigskin to fly and touchdowns to be scored, and on the Mustang side of the see-saw, it's time for 'Stang fans who love football to show their support for the teams they love!

I do my part of keeping the balance ('Stangs and the Cowboys) stable with this 1/24th scale replica of a "Dallas Cowboys" S197 Mustang GT. I picked this model up a few years ago during one of my annual trips to see a Cowboys home game in Irving, Texas. It's a pretty cool little model (it even has a supercharger on the engine), and an example of Cowboys' owner, Jerry Jones' marketing savvy (presenting America's team's association with Ford Motor Company through America's hottest car).

I'm not ready to take the bigger step in oufitting any of our personal Mustangs with the Silver and Blue, but I recently encountered a few Ford enthusiasts who actually did make the big sacrifice with their rides. Steve, check out the Excursion after the jump. I got the guy's contact info, maybe he can tell you where to get a smokin' deal on something similar for PVT or your Fox 500!

Is it a Whipple? MagnaCharger? I wonder how much power it makes?
We didn't get close enough to verify, but we think James Lawrence might be driving this Chargersmobile.
Big Steve would be proud of this Excursion, a rolling tribute to

Yes, this Fox-body GT and off-road-ready Excursion definitely are killer examples of "next-level" love for a pro football team. We spotted both of these vehicles during our drive home from a recent trip to Mexico (they were both on the USA side of the journey), cruising along the 5 Freeway.

For a moment, I thought the Chargers-emblazoned Mustang might have been former NMRA leader, James Lawrence, sneaking up the freeway in one of his old rides. James is another guy who is very passionate about Mustangs, as well as San Diego's football team, so the thought of him secretly having a tribute ride like this isn't as far fetched as one would think.

Seriously, I really don't have any intelligence on the driver/owner of the tricked-out Raidersmobile. The cool thing about it is, it is a Ford, and it's proof that some members of notoriously diehard The Raider Nation are hard-core enough to do something like this to their ride.
