Well, my GoPro/Molecule Mustang FR500S was fast at Lime Rock and I got back on the podium with a Third-Place finish. The race was a three-car breakaway of Terry Borcheller, Andrew Caddell, and I. Qualifying was a new experience as we had wet and dry conditions and were on slicks. Andreew earned pole with Terry second and I was third. At start of race if Andrew did not overdrive turns 3 and 4 Terry Borcheller would have had a hard time passing him as Lime Rock is a tough place to pass especially for a spec series. The whole race I just sat on Andrew’s bumper waiting for a mistake but nothing ever came that I could capitalize on without some risk and after Barber it was probably best to not push it. He knows I was there ready to pounce and a few times I could have but instead I was patient, and got the best finish I could under the circumstances.

For what it is worth Terry Borcheller is the real deal and quickly got Andrew to make a mistake so he could lead the parade for the next 45 minutes. He was smooth, consistent and did not err. My take is that he may have had some more in the bag if he needed it but it was Lime Rock…how were we going to pass him or anyone else if they did not make a mistake? I was fast in turns 1, 2, 3 and 4 but then got pulled on the straights and had to work to get back the car length or two I would lose. A few times on front stretch I was close enough to benefit from a draft but it never worked. Bummer. The race ends and we head to the podium and get the coolest trophies that were hand-blown clear glass with Lime Rock logo colors of black and red.
The whole area around Lime Rock is awesome so after the race I took my bride Kym antique shopping and wine tasting in Millerton, New York, where we stumbled upon Gilmore Glass. Quickly we realized they made the trophies. That evening we went to dinner at the Boathouse in Lakeville, Conneticut, and had some of their famous baked bread, then enjoyed some killer sushi. We finished the night with a beer at the local watering hole and watched the greatest athletic achievement of all time, Mark Phelps winning his 8th gold medal! After Lime Rock I am still second in points and hold a 16-point lead over Mike McGovern (I call him Steady Eddie because he just keeps finishing races.) He’s the Chief Driving Instructor of the Bob Bondurant Driving School and drives for Jim Click Racing. Round 6 of the Miller Cup takes place at Thunderbolt Raceway at the New Jersey Motorsports Park complex in Millville, New Jersey, on August 30th. Then the series makes its way to The Miller Motorsports Park in Toole, Utah, for Rounds 7 and 8, the finale to the 2008 season. I am ready to win again! Can you hear me coming?
