Even if road racing isn't your first love, you'll want to check out the Mustang Challenge on Discovery Channel. After all, Mustangs at full speed in high definition will look awesome. Check out the official Ford hype after the jump...

Mustang enthusiasts can get a high-definition look at the muscle car’s latest on-track success in the upcoming series “Why We Race: The Mustang Challenge.” Debuting at 8 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, Dec. 7, on Discover Communications’ HD Theater, the three-part series chronicles the inaugural eight-race Ford Mustang Racing Challenge for the Miller Cup.

Co-developed by Ford Racing Technology and Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, tiny HD cameras were mounted on the inside of the racing cars to capture the hairpin turns and dramatic finishes. This road racing series utilizes only Ford Mustang FR500S vehicles, which feature 4.6-liter, 3-valve production engines. Pony car fans will be able to follow Andrew Caddell, a 20-year-old native of Graham, Wash., as he takes the first series title after winning the first race and leading the standings from start to finish.

The Ford Mustang FR500S is the first race car built by Ford Motor Company on a production line intended for sale to the public. Some of the highlights include:

    * A cold-air kit
    * Six-speed racing transmission
    * High-capacity radiator
    * Two-way adjustable dampers and springs
    * BFGoodrich g-Force R1 tires

Quotes
“The Mustang was a dominant showroom-based race car during the glory days of American road racing in the mid-1960s and 1970s and the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup is the perfect platform for us to continue that proud tradition. The FR500S delivers what fans of the Mustang have come to expect – V8 power and rear-wheel-drive performance at an affordable price, which is something that racing fans and HD Theater’s audience can appreciate and relate to through this programming series.”
- Jamie Allison, Manager of the Ford Racing Performance Group
