Happy New Year, everyone!
Yep, it's time to get things crackin' in another year of 'Stangbanging, and I think "goin' racin'" is the best way to do it.
Even though the NMRA is our magazine's sanction of choice, we'll also be keeping a close eye on Mustang-racing happenings in the PSCA (the West Coast heads-up drag racing organization that I sometimes compete in), as its "Ford Racing Mustang Maddness" all-'Stang class kicks off its second season in 2009.
While these two major sanctions don't have any action happening until Febuary (PSCA/Phoenix)) and March (NMRA/Bradenton), I got word of a small-scale Mustang drag-race event for the West Coast racers, that's coming up in a few weeks at Barona Dragstrip in Brona, California. Clear the jump for details...
Mustangs vs The World is an 1/8th mile, True-Street-style (without the 30-mile cruise) drag race for 6-second to 10-seconds/slower Mustangs, and Brand-X or Import challengers. Bracket-style eliminators will be held for each e.t. range, and prizes will be awarded to the drivers with the quickest e.t. in each category (6-sec, 7-sec, 8-sec, 9-sec, etc).
It definitely sounds like fun, and a great way for SoCal 'Stang racers to break the New Year's ice. For us, it's a pretty big trip down to Barona, but I might consider it if other PSCA Mustang Maddness racers are going.
Oh...there IS one "catch," of sorts...'Stangs have to be REGISTERED AND INSURED in order to compete. It's a "street car" thing, but both of our supercharged project streeters (T-top coupe and '02 F-1A GT) qualify. Don't shoot the messenger. If you want in on the fun and don't have the street-legal credentials, you'll have to take that issue up with Emelio Valdez at Wicked 'Stangs www.wickedstangs.com
