S.O.S. Call

Is your 1999-’02 Mustang GT calling for increased spark?

The lifeblood of our Mustangs revolves around fuel and spark. Without the correct amount of both, we’re going nowhere. Back in the day if your Mustang didn’t start, it was either not getting any spark or fuel. You checked your distributor, coil, spark plug wires, and maybe even your points, if you had an early Mustang. Otherwise, you checked your fuel pump and lines. Nowadays, things are little more complicated, but fuel and spark still remain the same, and if you need increased spark for your 1999-’02 Mustang GT, check out Performance Distributors’ latest press release after the jump…

For Ford 4.6 Mustang owners, the distress calls for the COP (Coil on Plug) ignition systems have finally been answered by Performance Distributors. S.O.S.-Sultans of Spark high-performance coils are now being offered for 1999-'02 GT modular V-8 engines. Advanced technology (not gimmicks like ‘zero resistance’ and ‘tricked out rings’) has allowed us to pack in more voltage into the S.O.S. Coils, providing you with tire roasting performance. The S.O.S. Coils are designed with increased windings to boost your spark output up to 40,000 volts. That is a 60% increase over the 25,000 volts produced by stock coils. Unlike other coils, the higher voltage generated by the S.O.S. Coils does not drop under a load, that is, while you are accelerating. This unique feature is what allows you to run wider plug gaps. The additional juice allows you to open up your plug gaps to .065”, burning fuel more completely. More efficient combustion results in more horsepower and better fuel economy.
Because durability has been a problem with the stock coils, Performance Distributors has taken significant measures to extend coil life. For example, a higher quality thermal epoxy is used to prevent vibration of the coil windings. In addition, superior dielectric material is used to withstand high engine temperatures. S.O.S. Coils mount in the original equipment locations, and are available in sets as well as individually.
