It's Friday and I'm still in Texas. Friday kicks off the weekend, and for many of you who live in warmer areas where dragstrips are open year-'round, I know it's quite possible you might be planning to take your Mustangs to the local 1320 for a little test-and-tune action, either tonight...tomorrow...or on Sunday.
Hard-core racers in the Dallas area were doing-the-do on Wednesday night. Head across the jump to see pics of the action I caught when I visited Texas Raceway in Kennedale...
Since I've heard plenty of stories about the killer 1/8th mile track at Kennedale--home of some of the most-notorious Outlaw 10.5 and Drag Radial action in the country, I just had to get by there to check the place out.
Definitely a cool little facility, with friendly people, and a hookin' track. Although there wasn't any Earth-shattering action (with the exception of a cool, diesel-powered funny car, and an ADRL Pro-Mod car making test shots) on Wednesday, I was glad to see a couple of S197 Mustangs in the staging lanes, as well as Travis Franklin's former FFW Renegade/10.5 Outlaw New Edge.
The Gear Head Performance 'Stang is now has a new owner, and Travis has been helping rookie driver Rocky Buckland instructions on how to manage 1,200+ rear-wheel-horsepower, on a 33x10.5W rear slick.
All in all, it was a pretty good night out at Kennedale. I'd like to be there when the stands are packed, and the 10-wide killers and DR cars are going at it!
