"Mustangs are made to be modified." I think of Big Steve's famous phrase quite often when I'm checking out cool 'Stangs, or parts that make them cool.
Don't get me wrong, I also can appreciate stock-as-a-rock, but deep down I honestly feel that even those cars should have something done to them...even the most subtle upgrade...something!
While I was on assignement in Texas, my good friend, Sean Roberts of Extreme Automotive (Canoga Park, CA), called me and excitedly explained that he had just purchased a "less-than-five-thousand-mile" Shelby GT500, for dirt, dirt, dirt cheap. Seriously, a good, old-fashioned, "murder deal." Naturally, I'm happy for my homeboy...a little jealous...and also somewhat dismayed by his declaration that he plans on "keeping it stock" since he was given a SEVEN-year Ford warranty as part of his deal.
A long-term factory warranty is great. But, as owner of the facility where we've done so many Shelby-related tech stories, Sean has seen firsthand how well GT500s respond to upgrades. It surprises me that he's planning on going the bone-stock route for so long with his new 'Stang (the dude doesn't even want to change the blower pulley), but you can bet I'm gonna do everything I can to try and get him to change that attitude as the days, months and years that he owns his Shelby roll on!
Stay tuned to 5.0 Mustangs and Super Fords. When you read a Shelby GT500 tech story and I say that we're using Sean's car, you'll know that he buckled to the pressure...listened to Big Steve (who really has been impressing me with the moves he's making with Project Vapor Trail)...and finally joined the ranks of other GT500 owners who "ain't skurr'd," and are doing whatever can be done to make their very cool Mustangs even better!
There's no "jump" to cut across this time, boys. I'm done!
