I think I've heard the question, "how can I get my car in your magazine?" more than a few-thousand times in the four years that I have been the Tech Editor of 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords.
I guess (somewhat understandably) enthusiasts figure that when you work for the best late-model Mustang enthusiasts' magazine--regardless of your position--you've got to have the ability to make the all-important "calls" on which Mustangs make it into the book...and those that don't.
Any time I see the owner of this particular S197, I know that after the basic "hello/how 'ya doin'" pleasantries are over, he will immediately apply the full-court pressure about putting his 'Stang in the magazine.
Well, this 'Stang hasn't been featured in our magazine, but as of today it has made it to the Web site, and I'd like for all of YOU to post your comments and opinions on the car, and whether it does or does not deserve to be featured on the pages of 5.0.
Personally, I don't dig the "pester" approach for trying to land your Mustang a spot in the mag, and I'm pretty sure my colleagues aren't big fans of that tactic, either. And, while I certainly appreciate bad-ass Mustangs, and all of the blood, sweat, tears and expense that goes into making them, my primary focus is on the technical side of our hobby, so a feature-worthy Pony usually has to catch my attention from a tech perspective first, for me to look closer at the overall package and possibly recommended it as a potential feature candidate.
Ultimately, features/"Mustangs that get in the magazine" are decided by Big Steve and Associate Editor Mike Johnson. They've got years of experience with knowing what's hot and what it takes to get your 'Stang acknowledged. Keep sending the photos and info e-mails to our 5.0 Showcase mail box (showcase@sorc.com). Mike stays on top of the pics, and it definitely is a best route to getting the full-blown feature...a lot better than asking me over and over and over again!
