"Pit Boss" Gets a New Look

Raceskinz Lays the Paint and Carbon Fiber on Boss 340's Support Vehicle

Things are moving along with all aspects of Project Boss 340. The boss 340-powered 1990 Mustang drag car is coming together quite nicely out at A.R.E. Performance and Machine out in Simi Valley, California, and over in Van Nuys (that's also in Southern Cali), our "Pit Boss (the little EZ-GO golf-cart-turned-pit-support-vehicle that you can learn more about if you go back a few blogs)" is taking fine shape, thanks to the carbon-fiber masters at Raceskinz.

I dropped in on Raceskinz last week and saw some of the progress. You need to get over the jump and check it out...

In the beginning, Pit Boss looked like this. Racekinz is making sure we'll forget ALL about this hideousness when they work their magic on our golf cart.
This is the front valence, glazed with a fresh layer of "CF."
Georgie makes the chassis wet, with several coats of high-gloss black paint.
Once the paint dries, the Raceskinz team will go about reassembling Pit Boss.
Caaarrrrrrbonnnn fiiiiiberrrrrrrrrrr...Mmmmmmmmmm!
Here's a Catalyst Industrial Marking project...that's right, Ford's SVT hauler got a wrap job and more from the same crew that will bring "life" to Boss 340's exterior and interior.

Now that the NMRA, PSCA and other drag racing seasons are under way, and with the debut of our Boss 340 Mustang slated for later this year, I've been keeping a close eye on the way race teams "roll" at the track.

More specifically, I've really been checking out the golf carts that racers and their crews use, as it's clear that having a stylish 'cart definitely is the "in thing" at the drag strip. Since we want Pit Boss to have style and function, we asked the crew at Catalyst Industrial Marking's Raceskinz division to set it up so that both bases are fully covered when the little Boss rolls out.

Here are a few photos of the cart's makeover in progress (with a "before" photo to refresh your memory on how rough this piece of our Boss 340 project was). Raceskinz is doing what they do best...hooking Pit Boss up by spraying its chassis with a dose of the wettest black paint available, laying down the carbon fiber on Pit Boss' body panels, and hooking up the pickup with a rugged powdercoat treatment and Line-X coating inside the bed. Sick!

Boss 340 is headed down to Catalyst/Raceskinz very soon, for its complete exterior and interior makeover. Remember, lightweight is our goal for the race car, so there will be plenty of carbon coming for that, too. The cool thing about the Mustang's pieces is that they'll be available for your Fox-body Mustangs as well (after ours are done, of course), so note the contact info: (818) 988-0577, and give a call to learn how carbon-fiber door panels and more can be purchased for your '87-'93 Pony.

For those of you with newer Mustangs (2005-2009) and want to make carbon-fiber upgrades, Racekinz is now producing some pretty cool pieces that you really need to check out. Dial up http://www.raceskinz.us.com/ and check out the stuff they're offering now...and keep in mind that more is in the works.
