Same Place, Different 'Stang, Same Results

There's Something About Simi Valley and Our Mustangs

I'll probably get some sarcastic ("car show") gup from Big Steve about this, but the news is too cool to keep silent.

After the jump, people. After the jump...

A quick stop for fuel before heading out to Simi Valley, with our friend Marc Rubin...First Place winner in the '79-'93 Mustang category.
The show had an impressive lineup of New Edge Mustangs. The turbocharged (91mm), 5.4-powered drag 'Stang parked next to our GT was bad-ass!
Sean Maciel from A.R.E. Performance & Machine (www.areperformance.com) brought out his dad's bitchin', 1963 Galaxie 500 (390/4-speed car) and won First Place in the Galaxie class. The car's package tray and huge rear window served as a display area for copies of 5.0, and the artist's rendering of our current project; Boss 340
The Smith brothers from Raceskinz (www.raceskinz.us.com), Mike (w/trophy) and Tirrell, were Third Place winners in the Shelby class. Their carbon-fiber-treated GT500 was a big hit with fellow Shelby owners.

On Sunday (6/7/09), I decided to roll out to the Simi Valley (California) Mustang Club's 7th Annual all-Ford car show with my good friend, Marc Rubin, to take in a day of checking out Fords and Mustangs.

While I'm technically not one who is "consumed" by attending car shows as a participant, I actually have competed in this particular event, and it has always been fun (those of you with good memories may recall that the Simi Valley show is the event where our 1986 T-top coupe LX took top honors in the '79-'93 class in 2007 and 2008).

This year, I decided to keep the coupe parked in the garage, and just hit the show with our 2002 Mustang GT (the one with the ProCharger F-1A supercharger), to spectate, hang out with friends, and park the car in the "non-judged" area. Well, at the last minute, literally while we were waiting in line and filling out paperwork for the show, I crossed out the entry code for "non-judged," and wrote in the information for the '99-'04 Modified class. My thought process was, "what could it hurt to enter this car in a show...it's a pretty cool car...let's see what the people think."

Well, at the end of the day when awards time came around, our '02 GT was selected as the best in its class, out of (I think) 9 entrants!

The "winning streak" in Simi Valley continues! Three-consecutive years, three First-Place trophies, two different Mustangs. I guess taking Boss 340 to next year's show is a no-brainer!
