The dream of hitting the open road and taking that unexpected turn appeals to the Mustang side in all of us. Out of the entries received for the ‘10 Unleashed campaign, close to 50 percent centered on the ultimate road trip and many of those entries wanted to share that experience across the generations. The Mustang brings generations together unlike any vehicle on the market and Ford was able to make the dream of Joseph Cram and his father come true with the ultimate unexpected turn.
Joseph Cram, known as “Hot Rod Joe,” and his father Ralph Cram always dreamt of taking a road trip together in a Ford Mustang. In fact, the Houston resident and his father spent years rebuilding their very own ‘68 Mustang Coupe with the hopes to someday drive the vehicle together across country, until they were forced to sell their vehicle due to the tough economic times. 16 years later, the Crams’ dream of cruising in a Mustang became a reality when they were given the opportunity to take a road trip from Houston to Detroit and participate in the Woodward Dream Cruise - one of the largest automotive gatherings in the world.
The Crams’ experience was made possible by participating in Ford Motor Company’s “The ‘10 Unleashed” program, which encourages consumers to submit entries describing their ultimate Mustang dream experience in 250 words or less. Videos chronicling the father and son unleashing their Mustang sides are featured starting today at www.the2010mustang.com.
The father and son duo were loaned an all new 2010 Ford Mustang to experience a road trip of a lifetime. The Crams cruised through Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and finally to Michigan. Stops included the Milan Dragway, where they dragged raced one another and Kentucky Speedway, where NASCAR fan Ralph Cram experienced flying down the road at nearly 125 miles-per-hour on the straight away. In addition, they also visited Michigan National Speedway, where Ralph Cram met his racing idol Jack Roush, CEO of Rousch-Fenway Racing.
1,434 miles and four days later, the Crams made their final stop, the Woodward Dream Cruise – a special surprise for Ralph. The Crams were given a ‘68 Shelby – similar to the very vehicle they were forced to give up 16 years prior – to cruise down Woodward Avenue and roll into Mustang Alley.
The Crams’ experience is among several other dream Mustang experiences Ford is bringing to life with “The ‘10 Unleashed.” Famous drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. slid sideways around Japan, consumer Roger Keeney drove blindly, 18-year-old Derek Murrell drag raced his high school shop teacher, Queen Latifah hit the track with NASCAR racing phenom Colin Braun and Los Angeles resident Daniel Velarde got inked and customized his own 2010 Ford Mustang.
