More Factory Racing Fun from Ford

It's somewhat hard to believe that it actually has been 40 years since Parnelli Jones and Ford's legendary Boss 302 Mustang stormed their way to the 1970 Trans-Am Series (road-racing) championship.

The street version of the Boss 302 has always been one of my favorite Mustangs, and we're actually in the process of paying somewhat of an homage to the original Boss 'Stang, through our build up of Project Boss 340. Yeah, I know, Boss 340 is a drag car, but its unique engine (fuel-injected, 302-based stroker with Cleveland-style/canted-valve cylinder heads) definitely gives it "Boss" cred.

I'm not blogging today about Boss 340. This message is to give you info about a new Boss 302 Pony, that can be ordered and received at your local Ford dealership and taken straight to Willow Springs, Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen or whatever road course you want to race on.

Details after the jump...

That's right, the folks at Ford are bringing yet another factory-built, race-only Mustang to the stable (only 50 units are being built).

The Ford Racing Mustang Boss 302R (PN M-FR500-BOSSR; $79,000) will be ready for track days and road racing in a number of SCCA and NASA classes (an optional Grand-Am Homologation Package will be available for the Grand-Am KONI Challenge series).

While we don't have all the details just yet (Ford Racing is intentionally limiting the info and images on this new 'Stang), understand that the primary intent of the Boss 302R program is all about continuing Mustang's winning tradition in racing.

Ford Racing says an "Off-Road-Only" competition release is required prior to taking delivery of your new race car at your local Ford dealer, and priority will be given to those who order more than one.

Boss 302R orders can be placed with your local Ford or Lincoln Mercury dealer.
