While a good deal of our bolt-on-products testing...especially evaluation of serious performance parts such as power adders...is done with high-grade pump fuel (unfortunately, "high grade" is only 91 octane here in California), the power and torque levels we achieve in those tests almost always can be improved on when higher-grade fuel is used.
Whenever we want more gusto from a hot 'Stang (for example, Project T-top Coupe or the 2002 Mustang GT with the F-1A ProCharger), for the dyno, street and for our dragstrip excursions, VP Racing Fuels' high-octane "race gas (that's what gearheads call it)" is pumped into the fuel tank.
We use VP's MS 109 E for the Paxton Novi 2000-blown small block in the coupe, and 830 horses hit the rear tires easily and efficiently, without a hint of detonation when the tune is sharp.
We've received e-mails from some of you, asking "what the best grade of higher-octane gas is" for your particular engine and Mustang combinations. VP blends fuels for all types of street and motorsports applications, and now they've made it easy for enthusiasts to "find" the best fuel for their setup...online.
Jump across the jump for the official word on VP's revamped Web site...
"With so many fuel options available, many customers have told us selecting the best one can be very confusing," says Steve Scheidker, VP's Executive Director of Marketing and Communications. "So, in response to this concern, we reconfigured our Web site (www.vpracingfuels.com) to make it easy for high-performance enthusiasts and racers from all facets of motorsports to zero in on the most-appropriate VP fuel to meet their needs."
VP's new Web site is segmented by racing application (circle track, drag racing, motocross, etc. All you need to do is click on the application that best fits the way you use your 'Stang (we're betting the drag-racing section will be popular with our crowd), and a lis of relevant fuels will pop up.
"No longer will a drag racer (various VP Racing Fuels blends are legal in the NMRA) have to search through motocross fuels to find what they're looking for, and relevant documents such as fuel specs, MSDS forms and Tech bulletins also are available and easy to find," says Steve.
VP's support staff is available online and there is a Frequently Asked Questions section where answers to many of the questions we receive can be reviewed.
"Over time we anticipate adding application-, or fuel-specific Tech Tips, Test Results, Testimonials, as well as photos and/or videos to clearly illustrate the performance of VP's fuels relative to different applications or to our competitors," says Steve. "We encourage Mustang enthusiasts to visit our new Web site and check out the new features, and let us know what you think. The new site is a quantum leap forward, but we'll always be open to suggestions on ways we can make the site better."
