My Cobra finally eclipses the 13-second mark, but I'm only getting started

Though not even close to being as quick as Tech Editor Jones '86 coupe or any other staffer or freelancer cars, my Cobra hasn't received too much love as of yet. However, going from what the car was when I first got it, high 13s for this car is a feat in itself. Another big thanks to ProFab Performance and Dave Piercey for their help in getting the car where it is. Check out the details after jump...

Here’s my story from Bradenton Motorsports Park this past Sunday.

My ’94 Cobra has the following:

’92 Fox short block with stock 5.0 cam, and 80K

15 degrees of timing

Milled GT40 heads with a valve job and new seals

Stock Cobra 1.7 rockers

Stock Cobra intake, throttle body, and mass air

JLT cold air

3.73 gears

UPR lowers

Ford Racing uppers

MAC shorties

UPR/Blow-By Racing X-shape crossover pipe

Spintech mufflers with backyard tailpipes

Spec Stage 2 Plus clutch

Stock shifter with UPR pistol grip knob

No short belt

Full weight

Street tires

The last time I went to the track with the factory Cobra short block resulted in a best-of 14.5 at 98.90 mph. Here’s a breakdown of my previous best time:

60’ – 2.186

330 – 6.172

1/8 – 9.421

MPH – 76.81

1000 – 12.208

¼ - 14.535

MPH – 98.90

The only changes made were the short block, head work, clutch, and the JLT cold air. This is my new best time:

60’ – 2.104

330 – 5.876

1/8 – 8.993

MPH – 79.40

1000 – 11.691

13.960   - At Cecil County, MD, that would be a 13.60. LOL  The DA was 2,186 feet at the time of this pass.

MPH – 98.50

The next time I go to the track I will have drag radials, a shifter, and maybe a short belt. I wasn’t powershifting since I have the stock shifter in the car, but that will change when I get a shifter in the car. What’s funny is, my car didn’t pick-up any mph, even though it feels faster. I think the car is just easier to drive now with the new Spec clutch. I was able to take off a half a second from my last track outing, and I plan to be in the 13.50s the next time out.
