Shelby Signature Foods, founded by Carroll Shelby, chairman of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI.PK), will introduce its first product with IDEA Foods Inc.  The companies will offer a premium extra virgin olive oil to consumers in select retail stores under the “Shelby Signature Foods” brand within the next two months.  A portion of sales will benefit charity.
 
“Our goal at Shelby Signature Foods is to offer products that are best in class, offer important health benefits and taste great,” said Mr. Shelby.  “Working with Idea Foods, we’re going to introduce a wonderful olive oil that’s a great alternative to cooking in butter or margarine.  We’re working with other companies to brand additional Shelby foods to market in the near future.”
 
IDEA Foods Inc., a division of Campbell Supply Company Inc., is the sole distributor of Oliovita Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Argentina in the United States.  Headquartered in Doylestown, Penn., it distributes the olive oil products through retail chains throughout the eastern half of the country.  Shelby Signature Foods and IDEA will seek additional retail channels to sell the olive oil in North America.

Though most recognized for his automotive success with the Shelby Cobra sports cars, Shelby GT350 and GT500, Carroll Shelby was involved in the food industry for many years.  He created “Carroll Shelby Chili” mix, which is owned now by O’Reilly Foods and no longer associated with Mr. Shelby.
 
Charities to benefit from Shelby Signature Foods sales include the Carroll Shelby Foundation (carrollshelbyfoundation.org).  It supports children with medical problems and education for young people.
