"Anything goes, as long as you do it on (whatever ridiculously small slick, or drag-radial rear tire that heads-up race promotors feel will "limit" e.t. and/or speed)..."
A "rule" like that definitely makes for some very exciting drag racing, especially when a competitor chooses to put massive horsepower down on a pair of drag radials. Thanks to NMRA, PSCA, ORSCA, NMCA and all of the other sanctions out there with drag radial classes, racers are building cars that have absolutely massive amounts of horsepower, and running in the very low 7s (and there are even a few cars in the 6s on 315 drag-radial boots).
What does it take to make the kind of horsepower that will carry a Mustang to the low-7s and 6s in the quarter mile? Get over the jump and I'll tell you.
This new blower from Vortech looks like it has a ton of big-steam potential, doesn't it?!
I don't even have the specifics on what the new race-specific supercharger is called, but Rocco Acerrio of A.R.E. Performance & Machine (www.areperformance.com) has been working with it, and tells me it should be capable of making close to two thousand horsepower!
I'll try and find out more about the big boy. I've seen quite a few superchargers, but this Vortech piece definitely is one of the largest blowers I've seen for a Mustang's race engine.
