Two seasons ago, Mel Roth, the Pacific Street Car Association's President (founder, CEO, owner, or whatever title he goes by), decided to add another category to his West Coast heads-up drag racing sanction.
The Open Comp-format class for any-year, Ford-powered Mustangs only, is called Ford Racing Performance Parts (that's right, FRPP sponsors this deal) Mustang Maddness, and after two full seasons in exsistence, it has consistently been one of the largest eliminators at every PSCA event (averaging 25 'Stangs per race).
Sal Ybarra of Sal's Speed Shop in San Fernando, California, got Mustang racing started here on the West Side many years ago, with his popular Mustang Drag Days events at Los Angeles County Raceway.
The PSCA's FRPP Mustang Maddness class has expanded on Sal's dream, giving California 'Stangbangers (the whole state, as there's one racer who comes from San Francisco to compete) and Mustang racers from all over the Western United States (Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, etc), a great place to race.
I recently took in the PSCA's World Finals at Auto Club Dragway (Fontana, California) and had a great time.
I guess it's just hard for me to attend race events and not take photos, so these are just a few shots of the 'Stangs that competed in Ford Racing Mustang Maddness.
The question of the race for me was, "why aren't you out here racing, KJ?" Well, it definitely would have been a lot of fun. There's no doubt about that, but we've got our sights set on being in Las Vegas on November 19-22, for the PSCA's Street Car Super Nationals. V, where they're going to be running the Mustang Maddness class right along with the wicked Pro, Outlaw 10.5, Drag Radial and Index cars.
I blogged about this race not too long ago, so you can trip back through the posts and learn more about it, whenever you have time. For now, enjoy the photos of the 'Stangs of Mustang Maddness and the PSCA!
