In my sometimes-twisted way of thinking, the end of Super Bowl XLIV officially marked the beginning of the 2010 racing season, as both the NHRA and NASCAR Sprint Cup will hold their season-opening races next weekend--in Pomona, California (the Winternationals), and Daytona Beach, Florida (the Daytona 500).
I've long been a fan of both racing sanctions, and I'm looking forward to seeing some great races (or highlights of the events I don't catch on racedays) this year.
However, there is one other racing sanction that me and my colleagues at 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords are pretty fond of. I'm sure you know which one it is, but if you're not sure, head on over the jump and I'll tell you...
It doesn't take a lot of intelligence to know that I'm talking about the NMRA, boys!
Yes, it's almost time for front wheels to dangle, when 'Stangs take off from the starting line of the drag strip at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, Florida (March 4th thru March 7th).
Other than Tim Matherly's incredible-looking '10 Mustang GT Real Street car, I haven't heard too much news about other brand-new Ponies that will be coming out for heads-up or open-comp-style competition, but I'm sure there will be several bad-ass 'Stangs making their NMRA debuts at the Nitto Tire Spring Break Shootout.
Big Steve, and Associate Editor, Mike Johnson, will be on hand to catch the action. I'll be out there in spirit, as I'm locked and loaded to remain in California and put our '02 GT through its high-speed paces on the Mojave Mile during the same weekend.
Yes, the New Orleans Saints are pro football's world champs, and now it's finally time for racers to start their own quests for 2010 championships. Here's to having a great racing season, y'all!
