OK, by a show of hands, how many of you guys have always wondered "what, exactly," is your EFI tuner really doing when he's clicking away at his laptop's keyboard while your Pony is strapped down on a chassis dyno?
Well, the easy (and hopeful) answer to that question is, the tuner is dialing-in a power-making calibration for your Mustang's factory or aftermarket/stand-alone PCM.
EFI tuning is an artform of sorts. Going in, tuning requires a fairly good understanding of the four cycles of a Mustang engine's combustion process, and the importance of the air/fuel ratio, with respect to the combustion process.
Not to take anything away from your tuner, but, do you want to learn the fundamentals of tuning the same FAST XFI fuel-injection system that we use in our 1986 T-top coupe Mustang, which gets its calibration through the mind and fingers of Josh Deeds of Deeds Performance (www.deedsperformance.com)?
FAST XFI and EFI University (www.efi101.com) of Temecula, California, are giving you an opportunity to do just that, so hurry across the jump for more info...
The 1-day/8-hour course is designed for seasoned tuners and those who are just getting their feet wet in the EFI tuning game, and it covers the fundamentals of setting-up and tuning with an XFI system.
The registration fee is $495.00 and space is limited to only 25 students per class. While I'd love to go to the May 8, 2010 session at the COMP Performance Group's headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee, I'm making plans to learn all I can at the June 26, 2010 training session here in SoCal, at Westech Performance (Mira Loma).
I think this is a great opportunity for "hands on" Mustang enthusiasts to clear up some of the curiosity they have about EFI tuning with FAST XFI. Go to www.efi101.com for more info and to register for an upcoming class.
If you're in SoCal, I'll see you at Westech on June 26th!
