Taking Mustangs to the proverbial "next level" is one of the biggest subjets we focus on. The next level usually involves one of the "Big Three" power adders (nitrous, blower or turbo), and major horsepower gains are the goal--and usually the result.
Doug Sikora is a SoCal-based Mustang racer who came into the national spotlight last year, when he stunned the NMRA's Pro Outlaw 10.5 regulars with a brilliant performance at the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl event in Joliet, Illinois.
Doug's 'Stang did damage at Route 66 Raceway, and it destroyed its competition in the PSCA's Outlaw 10.5 class here in Cali.
Last year's heroics were accomplished with a ProCharger F-3R supercharger. Find out what Doug is now using for his move to the next level, after the jump...
When you're old-school like Doug Sikora (and me), the power-adder progression goes like this: Start with nitrous, move on to blower (that's where I currently am) and eventually end up with a turbo...or two.
Doug has moved on to adding a pair of Precision Turbo 88mm hair dryers to the small-block Ford engine in his New Edge 'Stang, and I caught this photo of the evil-looking combination at the PSCA's recent Spring Break Super Show at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, California.
When I asked Doug what it's like to use the turbochargers, after a very brief time with the blower, "it's a lot quieter," was his answer. "After the burnout, I have to look at the tach readout to confirm the engine is still running!"
New-package bugs are still being worked out, but Doug says he would love to bring his new setup back to Chitown for this year's Super Bowl. If he gets there, we're sure Pro Outlaw 10.5 will be very interesting.
