Work-Relief Program

Easing the Pain

I recently was introduced to a set of cool new products that I think are serious "must-haves" for professional mechanics, do-it-yourself gearheads and racers alike.

Head across the jump for details on the latest hotness for any workspace...

Most of us don't have the luxury of working on our 'Stangs in the "comfort" of a palatial shop, with twin-post hoists and such to help make jobs (especially tire changes, exhaust work, brake jobs and other under-chassis tasks) easier.

MechaniComfort's Mechanic Knee Pad and Wedge Mechanic Headrest.
MechaniComfort's MechaniMat Mechanic Mat.
All MechaniComfort mats and pads feature a non-skid bottom material that keeps the pad in place when you're laying or kneeling on it.
I work in Dickies shorts ALL the time. Having the MechaniComfort knee pad is a big help, especially when the hard ground is also as hot as fire.

Hard-core 'Stangbangers usually have to get things done "man style," by working on the hard ground (on our backs and/or knees), which can be extremely painful (ever have a rock penetrate into your back?) and sometimes lead to serious bone issues (knee problems, back-and-spine problems, etc).

NMRA Factory Stock racer, Zak Harty, has developed a set of pads and mats called "MechaniComfort (www.mechanicomfort.com)" that provide a substantial of cushion for man-style mechanics, and alleviate a lot of the pain that comes with performing some repairs while working on the ground.

I put the entire MechaniComfort collection (Mechanic Knee Pad, MechaniMat Mechanic Mat and Wedge Mechanic Headrest) to the test recently, while working on Project T-top Coupe (OK, yes, I do have a lift in my garage, but it isn't a twin-post, so on-my-back rules still apply occasionally).

Trust me, MechaniComfort is the business, guys. I love the 3.5" (thick) knee pad and the wedge-shaped head support. Both cushions make a BIG difference, as does the MechaniMat. I dig the fact that the foam pads and mats are non-skid on the bottom, and on top they're virtually immune to fluids such as oil, gasoline and water.

Check out MechaniComfort's Web site (www.mechanicomfort.com) for more information on these products, and, of course, to order everything for your garage, repair shop, race trailer, etc. It's definitely good stuff!
