Applied Vinyl

We're about to head out to Las Vegas, Nevada, at the end of this week, to participate in the PSCA's "Street Car Supernationals VI" event.

Our ProCharger F-1C-boosted, '02 GT is the car that has been selected for this year's race, and as per usual, Ford Racing Mustang Maddness (yes, Maddness is really spelled with two "Ds" for this class) is the category that I'll be trying to win.

Also (and sort of unfortunately) as per usual, preparing for the trip has been somewhat of a thrash. More about that, after the jump...

Everything is plotted out on one page, and then printed, cut and prepared for installation on a vehicle.
Mike sets up the vinyl roll in the printer. We selected "Brushed" as the color for our Mustang's lettering.
It's all in the computer. Amazing to think that this sort of stuff used to be painted on...sometimes FREEHAND!
When you've been installing graphics as long as Mike Smith has, putting them on "straight" is pretty easy.
All set for battle in Ford Racing Mustang Maddness at the Street Car Supernationals VI!
Mike Smith performs the "weeding" task (removing unnecessary pieces of vinyl from a graphic); one of the last steps before installing graphics.
Raceskinz applied 60" logo graphics on both sides and the rear door of our 26-foot enclosed trailer.
From now on, everybody will know it's us as we head down the highway.

It seems like no matter how hard you try and adhere to a strict preparation timetable when you're going racing, there's always something that skews the schedule.

For our effort, an unforseen parts casualty nearly ruined things, but fortunately we were able to correct a major problem (you'll read more about all of this in an upcoming issue of 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords) and swing things back toward the schedule.

Since we're now taking the '02 drag racing (its last competitive effort was on the Mojave Mile), there were some changes that had to be made. One of those changes was removing the "Mojave Mile" signage from the glass and installing new "Class/Car Number/Driver's Name" identification.

Our buddy Mike Smith at Raceskinz (http://www.raceskinz.us.com) was kind enough to set time aside for us and whip up a very cool set of vinyl decals for the Mustang, and also for our 26-foot enclosed trailer.

The whole process is pretty interesting...from conceptualizing the graphics (for our stuff, the Glopentine font was used, and then italicized for the cool "speedy" effect), to printing, to prepping and then applying the vinyl on a vehicle. One of these days maybe we'll look deeper into the art of wrapping an entire vehicle.
