We're about to head out to Las Vegas, Nevada, at the end of this week, to participate in the PSCA's "Street Car Supernationals VI" event.
Our ProCharger F-1C-boosted, '02 GT is the car that has been selected for this year's race, and as per usual, Ford Racing Mustang Maddness (yes, Maddness is really spelled with two "Ds" for this class) is the category that I'll be trying to win.
Also (and sort of unfortunately) as per usual, preparing for the trip has been somewhat of a thrash. More about that, after the jump...
It seems like no matter how hard you try and adhere to a strict preparation timetable when you're going racing, there's always something that skews the schedule.
For our effort, an unforseen parts casualty nearly ruined things, but fortunately we were able to correct a major problem (you'll read more about all of this in an upcoming issue of 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords) and swing things back toward the schedule.
Since we're now taking the '02 drag racing (its last competitive effort was on the Mojave Mile), there were some changes that had to be made. One of those changes was removing the "Mojave Mile" signage from the glass and installing new "Class/Car Number/Driver's Name" identification.
Our buddy Mike Smith at Raceskinz (http://www.raceskinz.us.com) was kind enough to set time aside for us and whip up a very cool set of vinyl decals for the Mustang, and also for our 26-foot enclosed trailer.
The whole process is pretty interesting...from conceptualizing the graphics (for our stuff, the Glopentine font was used, and then italicized for the cool "speedy" effect), to printing, to prepping and then applying the vinyl on a vehicle. One of these days maybe we'll look deeper into the art of wrapping an entire vehicle.
