I'm currently deep in the middle of a tech project that involves making significant changes to a new Mustang GT's, Coyote 5.0 engine.
While the effort has been fun and everything is going smoothly, I'm actually more excited about something I'll be doing with a much-older Mustang next week.
It really doesn't matter how many "new" Mustangs Ford develops (and before I say what I'm gonna say, please understand that I really do LOVE the 2011-2012 'Stang), deep down, I'm always gonna be a Fox fan.
Yes, '86-'93 EFI Mustangs are my true favorite. The reason for this could be because I'm older and remember when those cars were brand new, or maybe because it simply (coining one of today's very popular phrases here) "it just is what it is." I don't know.
One thing I do know (especially whenever Fox-related posts hit our Facebook page) is that a lot of you also truly dig Fox bodies, and original-5.0-based engines.
As '86-'93 fans, I hope you will be excited...or at least get excited, when Project T-top Coupe makes what we hope will be its successful performance resurrection next week.
Yep, we're officially all set to test the rare 1986 notchback on the chassis dyno at Extreme Automotive in Canoga Park, CA. The coupe is waiting in the garage now, and hopefully will be making big steam next Friday.
Blog and Facebook followers, you've got a week to think it out. Give us your estimates on the rear-wheel power and torque that you think our upgraded project Pony will make.
Our testing highlights the 353ci engine (built by Rocco Acerrio of A.R.E. Performance & Machine of Simi Valley, CA) and its upgraded pieces (AFR 225 cylinder heads, Scat stroker rotating assembly, JE flat-top pistons, Comp cam), FAST's XFI 2.0 engine-management system (which will be tuned by Brian Macy of Horsepower Connection [www.horsepowerconnection.com]), and the piece de resistance...Paxton's all-new, Novi 2500 supercharger, with cog pulleys and a Vortech Mondo ("Igloo") water-to-air intercooler system (Note: we're actually testing with a Novi 2000 first, then installing the Novi 2500 in a back-to-back comparative test)!
This should be a good one, and it's only one week away from happening. Give us your performance estimates. And...STAY TUNED!
