Nitrous???...WHAT Nitrous?!?!?!?!

Sneaky Seat

The last few weeks and days for me have been dedicated to working on Project T-top Coupe.

Yes, the T-top notchback has been down for quite a while, but recent efforts (and thanks go to a LOT of people for helping out) have resulted in excellent progress being made, and allowed all of us to finally see some light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

If you've paid any attention to the coupe's water-to-air-intercooler plumbing, you've seen where we've placed the ice-water tank and read about my plan to "surround" the tank with a pair of rear "bucket" seats, made by splitting a stock seat bottom into two halfs.

More on that idea, after the jump...

Here's the template for hollowing out your Mustang's rear seat. Now, get to digging!
I can hear it now..."WHAT nitrous?!...This car doesn't have nitrous!"
Too cool!

Since I needed a donor seat bottom (I didn't want to cut Couptie's current seat bottom for this), my buddy, Greg Montoya, offered one that he acquired from our friends the DeWitt brothers. Huey and Maury DeWitt...and their cousin...are in the process of building two Fox-body 'Stangs for PSCA heads-up competition, and unbeknownst to them, the seat bottom from the hatchback LX roller they acquired is...well...just a little "different."

As you see in the photos, while the cushion may look "stock" on top (I know, it needs to be cleaned), it's actually far from being called "OEM" down below; with foam hollowed out for perfect placement of a 10-pound nitrous bottle. I really have to give creativity credit to the cats who had the car before the DeWitts bought. I bet they won a lot of money using the old, "it doesn't have nitrous," or, "it only has one stage" tricks. Pretty cool.

I've got the custom cushion now, and the jury's still out on whether I'll put it to use in ways other than as the set of buckets that I've got planned. Hiding a bottle in T-top Coupe sure would be pretty slick (even though some of my racing buddies from the streets of NY and NJ swear I've already been doing that). With the addition of this seat bottom, I now have all the equipment to do it, if I want to.

So, I guess all I'll say for now is, "you never know what might happen..." Muuuuwwwwaaaahahahahaha!
