Lately we've been communicating about...well, more like, preaching about...the virtues of going to automotive (in SoCal they're actually specific "high-performance") swap meets, and making great deals for parts.
Our "Project Cheaper Sleeper" LX has been the beneficiary of parts that were purchased at the Long Beach High Performance swap meet, as well as through Craigslist, and the ever-popular Classifieds forum of The Corral.
On Sunday, June 30, 2013, I made a run out to Irwindale Speedway (the 1/8th-mile dragstrip that's famous for its Thursday night street-drags program), and walked the aisles of its Hot Rod and Motorcycle swap meet; an event that unlike Long Beach (second Sunday of each month), is only held four times each year.
Here are some pictures of some of the late-model Pony equipment that was available for sale at Irwindale. Trust me, the "want" vs "need" concept was put to the ultimate test out there, especially when I came across the truckload of intercoolers, intake manifolds, fuel filters, superchargers and all sorts of miscellaneous Mustang goodies that the dudes from Vortech were blowing out!
If/when you hear about an automotive swap meet coming to your area, I strongly suggest you make the time to go out there and look around. I'm willing to bet you'll find something out there that you just "have to have" for your car, garage or whatever.
My score for this outing was minimal, thanks to "want" vs "need." I didn't really need anything, and the cool stuff that I wanted, well, I guess I didn't want it bad enough to pull the trigger.
A few Mustang diecasts (for the collection, of course) were the only goodies that made it back to my house this time, but I really did enjoy seeing the 'Stang-related stuff that was out there!
